Sweetly camphoraceous (top) warm spicy-herbaceous (base). In the gospel, the Roman soldiers guarding the crucified Christ offer him a sponge soaked in vinegar. They place it on a sprig of hyssop and extend it to him.
Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. [John 19:29]
